Screening and cleaning of the ocean around Toli-Toli, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia

Toli-Toli, located in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, is home to six of the world’s seven sea turtle species and provides habitat for more than 2,000 species of fish and marine mammals, including the impressive dugong (sea cow). Indonesia is also part of the Coral Triangle, which hosts the highest marine biodiversity in the world and contains about 75% of all known coral species.

The increase in overfishing, pollution, unsustainable tourism, and lack of awareness has had negative impacts on the marine ecosystem in Toli-Toli. This natural habitat of fish, sea turtles, and dugongs is increasingly under threat, with more than one-third of the coral reefs damaged and plastic waste visible all along the beaches.

Our Solution

Diving for a Good Cause

We work with local divers to restore the natural marine habitat by setting up coral tables, planting seagrass, and collecting waste.
The university team will also collect and analyze data on marine ecosystems to monitor progress and assess our environmental impact.

Waste Processing

We will convert organic waste into compost to be used in agriculture.
Recyclable plastic will be shredded and processed into flakes to be sold as raw material.
Non-recyclable plastic will be broken down into its natural components (oil) through a closed heating process. This fuel will be offered to locals at an affordable price.

Educational Work

Raising environmental awareness plays a key role. Our team will conduct workshops at schools, universities, and community centers, publish relevant scientific articles, and provide training for lecturers at partner universities in Indonesia (Umada and UKDW).
Additionally, we can provide a wide range of topics for theses or internships for students.
